Oz uses intense color as a means of expression, relying on deep saturated colors to project the emotional content in her works and to elicit that same response from her audience.

Her current work is part of the Glitch art movement; which is defined as randomly corrupting, bending, and degrading data in an image to create an unpredictable aesthetic. Images usually start with her own photography, which she glitches with various software processes. The unpredictable and experimental nature of Glitch enables her to create completely unique images that defer to the whim of technology.

Both a painter and a photographer, when it comes to identifying with a medium, Van Rosen chooses photography, but her art isn’t about recording a moment in time and it isn’t bound by the limitations of picture taking, rather, she creates intricate abstract images by databending and manipulating the underlying pixels. Glitching pushes the boundaries of photography into new visual possibilities, and the final piece is a byproduct of both chance and calculation, a combination of the technology’s whim and her own intention.

With a creative process akin to a music DJ merging different sounds, Van Rosen mixes mediums seamlessly, using painting techniques to inform her photos, glitching and re-glitching with her fingers or a pen on a digital tablet. For Van Rosen, her work is about exploring new image creation possibilities, marking a significant transition of art in the technological age.

She describes her work as “Abstract Techspressionism” a new form of image creation in the era of post-photography. Technology has profoundly changed how we consume, interact with, and perceive almost everything today. It has also consistently advanced how artists express themselves. Photography spurred the abstract expressionist painting movement, and technology, in turn, has freed photographers from strict representation and enabled unprecedented abstract exploration.

Oz studied art at the New York School of the Arts but photography has always been her primary passion and a self-taught hobby. She made her career in Marketing and Healthcare, but recently took on art full time, after her father’s passing. A native of Southampton, Van Rosen has lived in may places, including Paris, Vienna, and Los Angeles and now divides her time between her Manhattan and Southampton home, the latter often serving as inspiration for her art.
